Eric Imasaka was shorecasting at La'ie Point, O'ahu in January of 1979 when he landed a 48-lb kagami ulua using 60-lb test line and a tako (octopus) bait. The fish was nearly 10 lbs heavier than the previous record, a 38-lb 8-oz fish caught off Black Point on the other side of O'ahu on February 2, 1995 and was brought to HFN's attention by Eric's dad.
