Al caught his 105-lb ulua at Ka'awaloa near the Capt. Cook monument. The fish struck a large, live palani between 8 and 9 p.m. Al needed only 20 minutes to raise the fish high enough for his fishing partner, Smiley Kiyota, to gaff it. Al was a member of the Hilo Casting Club for three years and won their gross weight division each year before deciding not to register his catches. How many giant trevally did he catch? A total of 100.
