Bottom Fish Weight Angler Location Date Kalekale 3.92 lbs Richard Taga Mahukona 05/00/2023 Late in May, I caught this 3.92-lb kalekale on a 100-lb leader with a sardine bait. I was actually targeting opakapaka at around 90 fathoms, just outside of Mahukona. That is my son Caleb Taga holding the fish, at 4 years old. I caught the kalekale with a 5'6" deep dropper rod made by Frigate Sales, in the 80-100 lb class. The reel was my Tiagra 50w with an Eliott electric conversion, spooled with 200 lb line.
