We were swimming back to shore during a late afternoon dive off the North Shore of Oahu on June 1, 2020. I saw this Palenose parrotfish in the shallows about 100 yards or so from the shoreline. It ducked underneath a small arch, and we played peekaboo for a couple of minutes before I was able to get a decent shot on it.
I was using a custom KAP Euro Series speargun with a single-wrap/single-band setup.
Unfortunately, I didnt think much of the size at the time and scaled the fish in the water before I got home. I knew that it was decent, but a friend told me that I should weigh it, just in case.
Luckily, I did. I now hold the state record for a Palenose Parrotfish with my 1.72-lb catch!
