Wide-Range Fish Weight Angler Location Date Tripletail 7 lbs Calvin Lai Jr. Kona, Hawaii 4/10/07 Calvin Lai Jr. was diving in blue water off Kona and spearing mahimahi near a net with his Riffe Comp 3 speargun when he noticed an unfamiliar fish hiding beneath the net. He shot the fish thinking that it was a tripletail and was pleased when the fish turned out to be a tripletail and thrilled when it also became a state record! Tripletail are rare in Hawaiian waters.
