Marla Yamashita was fishing in the Kapoho area of the Big Island using her Ugly Stik pole and a Daiwa spinning reel. She was using ika for bait when she hooked her maikoiko and fought it with 12-lb test line. Interestingly, she caught a state record of the same species one week earlier!
